New at work?

Helsebemanning AS is a Norwegian-owned company with headquarters in Lillehammer and branch offices in Malaga.

For those who are new at work

If you are new to the industry as a freelance consultant (hired person), there are often several things you may feel a little unfamiliar or uncomfortable with. It can be sometimes difficult to know what to do in certain situations, or to know what is customary in the industry. Here are two important points to consider.

To be a freelance consultant

Being a freelance consultant is not the same as being an employee. Your immediate supervisor will not be with you at your daily workplace. You probably won’t have, one and the same care unit to go to every morning. And while it may feel like you’re really one of the employees in the workplace, it’s important to recognise that your specific circumstances are different from theirs.

As a consultant you need to be self-driven, flexible and approachable. You are expected to roll up your sleeves and take care of customers’ projects when needed. Many times you are brought in to work where there is a high staffing need

You need to be a team player who enjoys working with people to build good relationships and trust. You also need to be a good listener to align with customer expectations.

You have a consultant manager who handles all negotiations with the client (the care provider)

As a new consultant, it is often valuable to be connected to a staffing company with experience and knowledge, in order to easily find and get different assignments. But in these contexts, it’s important to know that you’re not the one who deals with the customer in the first place.

All legal issues, price negotiations and renewal negotiations are handled directly by your consultant manager – the link between you and the healthcare provider. For example, if you try to negotiate remuneration directly with your client, you run the risk of evading the tendering agreement – which can hurt rather than help.

If you’re looking for a challenge at work, want to be in control of your working hours while developing and building your network, the consultancy may be just for you. Maybe this is the right path for you?

Here are some more advantages of working as a consultant in healthcare

  • It’s varied work and assignments of your choice.
  • Changing jobs is one of the best tips for increasing your salary. If you are a successful consultant, you also have an even greater opportunity to influence your salary and career.
  • By working with a variety of healthcare providers and colleagues, you’ll quickly build a wider networkof contacts in your field.

Frequently asked questions

Do you have questions about staffing with healthcare staffing? Below we have answered some of the most common concerns.

Who is Helsebemanning?

Helsebemanning AS is a Norwegian-owned company with headquarters in Lillehammer and branch offices in Uppsala, Karlskrona, Stockholm, Borlänge and Málaga (Spain).

Since its inception in 2010, Helsebemanning has staffed with nurses and doctors (consultants) in most specialties found in healthcare, both in Sweden and Norway. Since January 2020, we also staff with audiologists.

Helsebemanning wants to run a business where our commitment makes a difference and where you as a consultant and our customers should feel optimally treated. Good communication and credibility are key words for us.

How does it work?

When you work as a consultant, you work on behalf of Helsebemanning. We usually receive assignments through framework agreements with customers who place their orders with us. The content of your job is regulated by the agreement we have with the care provider (the customer) and can look a little different depending on the location and type of assignment. Your immediate manager is one of our consultant managers who will guide you all the way from the moment you register as interested in a job until the assignment is extended or completed. It is most common to get a new assignment before ending an ongoing one so that you can plan your future.

Working as a consultant gives you the freedom to choose when, how much and where you want to work, but you need to be confident in your role as a doctor or nurse, have experience and be flexible. Some people want to work as a consultant to try out jobs in different parts of Sweden or Norway, while others prefer assignments in the same place. As a consultant, you can work through your own company where you are paid by invoice or as an employee with a salary.

Working with us is a great way to try out life as a freelance consultant. You can choose short or long term assignments and you don’t have to commit for a long period if you’re not sure if this is really suitable for you.

The consultant manager you will be working with is a very experienced person who has worked in staffing for a long time. You will be assisted with work, travel and accommodation arrangements if you wish.

Most of our customers are happy to hear about your experience of working for them and whether you can suggest any improvements or just give them praise.

No, you don’t have to. There are part-time and full-time, short-term and long-term assignments in both Norway and Sweden, ranging from single weeks to year-round assignments. You can choose how much you want to work.
